The Federal Government has extended the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act and you can benefit from it .

The current federal program includes incentives for the following home heating and air energy improvements

• 10% of cost, up to $500, for shell improvements: The REVISED incentives for 2011 are now calculated at 10% of the cost for shell improvements, up to a maximum of $500,  and do NOT include the cost of installation. 
• In some incidences: Such as the installation of windows, doors and skylights, second homes and new construction qualify as well as the upgrading of existing homes. 
• Additionally, the $500 cap will apply to anyone who received the credit from Jan. 1, 2005 to present: Which means, if you claimed $500 or more of the credit at any point since Jan. 1, 2005, you won't be eligible for the 2011 extension.
• 30% of Geothermal Installation costs: Geothermal heat pumps are eligible for a tax incentive worth 30% of the total installation cost, without a cap! This credit is available through 2016, and can be carried forward. Both primary residences and second homes qualify.
• Up to $300 credit: Toward high efficiency air conditioners, water heaters, and heat pumps
• Up to $150 credit: Toward qualifying high efficiency  furnaces and boilers
